Nieuw Album: Agnes Obel - Citizen Of Glass

Na de Paradiso aankondiging en de lancering van de nieuwe single Familiar, kan er nu ook eindelijk bekend gemaakt worden dat er een nieuw album van Agnes Obel onderweg is! Obel’s derde album, Citizen Of Glass, komt 21 oktober uit.
De voorlopers van Citizen of Glass, Philharmonics (2010) en Aventine (2013), gingen vaker dan één miljoen keer over de toonbank en de nummers zijn gezamenlijk 250 miljoen keer gestreamd. Citizen Of Glass is opgenomen, geproduceerd en gemixt door Agnes Obel zelf bij Aventine-Neukölln en BrandNewMusic-Studios in Berlijn.

Obel over de herkomst van de titel: The title comes from the German concept of the gläserner bürger, the human or glass citizen. It’s actually a legal term about the level of privacy the individual has in a state, and in health it’s become a term about how much we know about a person’s body or biology or history – if they’re completely made of glass we know everything. There’s an increasing sense in this world that you have to make yourself a bit of glass. To be willing to open up, use yourself as material, and not just if you’re an artist or a musician.
Het nieuwe album ligt niet in het verlengde van haar twee voorgangers, maar laat een andere sound van Obel horen. Grenzen werden opgezocht en overschreden in het maakproces.
I worked with the title from the very beginning to push myself to do new things,” aldus Agnes Obel. “I wanted to push myself conceptually from the starting point, to push the glass theme throughout the songs in different ways – in the lyrics, in the instruments – to do things in a very new way.
