De Amerikaanse (hard)rockband Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators (SMKC) heeft zojuist de eerste single-video ‘The River Is Rising’ uitgebracht van het nieuwe studio-album ‘4’ dat op vrijdag 11 februari 2022 via Gibson Records i.s.m. BMG verschijnt. ‘4’ is het vijfde soloalbum van Slash en het vierde met zijn band SMKC, die verder bestaat uit met Myles Kennedy (zang), Brent Fitz (drums), Todd Kerns (bas & zang) en Frank Sidoris (gitaar & zang). Eerder bracht de band de albums ‘Apocalyptic Love’, ‘World on Fire’ en ‘Living The Dream’ uit.
Voor ‘4’ reisde SMKC naar Nashville, TN, en nam daar het nieuwe album op in de historische RCA Studio A met producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, John Prine, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile). De manier van werken was voor dit album radicaal anders dan voorheen, hetgeen dan ook resulteerde in een verrassend nieuw geluid. Cobb deelde de wens van de band om de tracks live vast te leggen in de studio, inclusief gitaarsolo’s en zang – een primeur voor de groep. Het resultaat is een vibrerend rockalbum met memorabele gitaar hooks en meeslepende melodieën, met grootse refreinen en aanstekelijke riffs. Dat wordt meteen duidelijk door het openingsnummer, de eerste single ‘The River Is Rising’. De gelijknamige officiële video werd met Gibson TV-regisseur Todd Harapiak opgenomen in het centrum van Los Angeles.

Slash: “There’s two or three songs on the record that were written during the pandemic; everything else was written before. ‘The River is Rising’ was one of the last songs I wrote before we started pre-production, and because it was so fresh and had a certain groove and energy to it, it was the first thing we really attacked. It’s the newest song on the record, and as for the double-time part, that was something that I came up with and tagged onto the end of the arrangement. Then when we were over at RCA, Dave Cobb suggested we do it right after the breakdown. So, we went straight into the fast part, and I just started doing the guitar solo over it. It was one of those things where we were jamming around, trying to fish out the arrangement, and it just happened.”
Myles Kennedy: “The lyric ultimately explores how humans can be brainwashed or indoctrinated by some sort of dangerous idea. Once we shot the demo back and forth a few times, I personally felt confident that we had the album opener. To me, it’s an important track.”
In het licht van de 30-jarige samenwerking tussen Gibson (dat zijn hoofdkantoor heeft in Music City Nashville, de geboorteplaats van dit iconische Amerikaanse instrumenten merk) en de Grammy Award-winnende, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inductee Slash, is het logisch dat dit nieuwe album via Gibson Records verschijnt. Dat heeft geleid tot een prachtige unieke samenwerking, met als resultaat bijvoorbeeld het limited-edition Slash Les Paul Standard 4 Album Edition gitaarpakket. Slechts 250 Slash Les Paul Standard 4 Album Edition-gitaren zullen beschikbaar worden gesteld voor wereldwijde release op www.gibson.com en bij geselecteerde geautoriseerde Gibson-dealers, en het unieke gitaar pakket bevat ook het nieuwe SMKC album ‘4’ op vinyl. Een exclusieve koffer herbergt het vinyl, een 4-album gitaar plectrum blik met een verscheidenheid aan plectrum kleuren (8-count), een gesigneerd SMKC-bandportret en een sticker met 4 albums.
Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators beginnen op 8 februari 2022 aan een Noord-Amerikaanse headliner tour in Portland en zullen 28 grote steden aandoen waaronder Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver, Nashville, Dallas, Austin, Houston met een laatste show in Orlando.
