Nieuw album: Metallica - 72 seasons

Maandag was het nieuws er ineens. Metallica overdonderde door uit het niets met nieuw materiaal naar buiten te komen. ‘Lux Æterna’, een nummer waarin, zoals de band het zelf omschrijft, veertig jaar Metallica samenkomt. En daar bleef het niet bij. Want daarnaast was er ook meteen de aankondiging van een nieuw album, dat ’72 Seasons’ gaat heten en uitkomt op 14 april 2023.
En alsof het strooigoed nog niet op was, maakten ze ook nog een nieuwe wereldtournee bekend die tot diep in 2024 doorloopt. Daarbij doen ze op 27 en 29 april 2023 ook Amsterdam aan voor twee unieke concerten in de Johan Cruijff Arena, met iedere avond een andere setlist.
Frontman en mede-oprichter van de band James Hetfield omschrijft het concept van het album als volgt: “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
